CMP Volunteer Programme 

The CMP is currently looking for volunteers to assist its Bi-communal Forensic Team. Specifically applicants are sought for the following positions: 

  1. Forensic Laboratory volunteer: 
    Applicant(s) will assist, and be supervised by, CAL Forensic Anthropologists in the performance of the Forensic Examination of Human Remains based on the LAB Standard Operating Procedures.Key tasks include preparing the remains for analysis (cleaning, washing, labeling, packaging), preparing personal belongings, clothing and artifacts for analysis  (cleaning, labeling, packaging), assisting CAL Forensic anthropologists in the documentation process (note taking, photographing, etc), assisting in the DNA sampling process, assisting in the transfer of identified remains based on established protocols.This vacancy is addressed to current or recent graduate or undergraduate students of Anthropology/ Physical Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Sciences or other related fields. 
  2. Archaeological Field Team volunteer:
    Applicant(s) will assist, and be supervised by, CMP Archaeologists in the excavation of suspected burial sites and exhumation of human remains and related artefacts. Key tasks include assisting in the excavation process either manually or by monitoring  the mechanical excavation, assisting the Forensic Archaeologists in the exhumation process following the established protocols, assisting in the documentation process (prepare the recovery logs, prepare sketches, taking photographs and  preparing a complete Forensic Archaeological Report following the established protocols). 

This vacancy is addressed to current or recent graduate or undergraduate students of Archaeology, Forensic Archaeology, Forensic Sciences or other related fields.

 Applicants must be fluent in English, be willing to work in a bi-communal work environment and have excellent teamwork skills. 

 Volunteers are sought for a period of not less than three (3) months. Applicants interested in shorter periods will not, at this stage, be considered. Volunteers are sought throughout the year and applicants should indicate in their applications the periods during which they would be available. 

 Please note that volunteer positions are non-remunerated. Travel and accommodation expenses (where applicable) must be borne by the applicant.
