Press Release

The Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus, Ms. Lisa Buttenheim, welcomes the arrival on the island of Mr. Paul-Henri Arni to assume his new responsibilities as Third Member of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP). Mr. Arni succeeds Mr. Christophe Girod who concluded his tour of duty last summer.

Prior to joining the United Nations team in Cyprus, Mr. Arni, a Swiss national, served with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for more than two decades. He has extensive field experience in the management of operations and the identification of missing persons including postings in Uganda, Sri Lanka, the former Yugoslavia, Pakistan, Tanzania, Chad and Ukraine. Prior to taking up his assignment at Third Member, Mr. Arni was heading the ICRC’s “Health Care in Danger” initiative.

In welcoming Mr. Arni, SRSG Buttenheim praised the cooperation between all parties to the CMP and hailed it as an effective model for building confidence between the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
