Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs visits the CMP Laboratory
Nicosia, 9 July 2019) – Yesterday, the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis visited the Anthropological Laboratory of the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP). Federal Councillor Cassis was accompanied by Dr Pierre-Yves Fux, Swiss Ambassador to Cyprus. The CMP Members briefed Federal Councillor Cassis on CMP’s humanitarian work of recovery, identification and return of the remains of persons who went missing in 1963, 1964 and 1974. They stressed the importance of this humanitarian project for the restoration of trust between communities and underlined how the return of the remains of missing persons to their loved ones prepares the ground for reconciliation.
So far, 939 missing persons from both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities have been identified and returned to their families for dignified burials.
The CMP relies on donor support to alleviate the suffering of the concerned families.
