No suspension of identifications
(Nicosia, 21 May 2015) – Over recent days, several media reported on a parliamentary hearing during which concerns were expressed over a suspension of identifications by the Committee on Missing Persons.
The Members would like to reassure the families of missing persons across Cyprus that this is not the case.
Anthropological and DNA analysis of exhumed remains is ongoing at the CMP anthropological laboratory and has led to the identification of 18 missing persons since 1 January. At the same time, CMP scientists are reviewing the procedures governing the analysis of complex cases that contain multiple and incomplete sets of remains.
The CMP expects to reach end-of-year results comparable to previous years.
