CMP temporarily suspends exhumations at Sykhari (Kaynakköy) area due to unexploded artillery shell

(Nicosia, 14 September 2010) – The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) temporarily suspended its exhumation efforts at Sykhari area, following unearthing of an unexploded artillery shell on Monday, 6 September 2010.
The CMP is in consultations with the experts regarding the most appropriate way forward in order to ensure the safety of the CMP exhumation teams and the continuation of its efforts to bring closure to the families of the Missing Persons.
The CMP appeals to all relevant parties and stakeholders to appreciate the seriousness of the cautious steps taken by the CMP to address this unexpected development and help towards dealing with the situation in an effective and safe for all way.
