CMP Members hold talks in Vienna and Geneva

(Nicosia, 25 November 2017) – As part of their overall effort to find new information on unknown burial sites in Cyprus in military and police archives of twelve countries, the three CMP Members held talks on 21 November in Vienna with officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defense. They also visited the National Archives. Progress was made in plans to access and research UNFICYP-related Austrian archives.

On 23 November, CMP Members had several fruitful meetings with senior officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva, including its President Peter Maurer, to discuss present and future cooperation between the ICRC and the CMP. In particular, they prepared the forthcoming CMP research mission into ICRC Cyprus-related archives as well as cooperation on a 4-year ICRC project that will, as of 2018, bring together practitioners from around the world to set new standards to professionalize the search for missing persons and the support to their families.
