Release Date: Sep 06, 2013
The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) welcomes the appointment of the new Greek Cypriot member, Mr. Theophilos V. Theophilou, who took up his functions on 2 September. He replaces Dr. Aristos Aristotelous whom the CMP would like to thank for his contribution. Mr. Theophilou possesses in-depth knowledge of the missing persons dossier, having served as the first representative of the Greek Cypriot community in the CMP at its inception in 1981. Since then, he has had a distinguished diplomatic career, inter alia, as Ambassador to India, Germany and the European Union. The CMP is confident that Mr. Theophilou will be instrumental in helping to further increase the number of identifications of missing persons. The Committee notes that 2013 is already a record year with 90 human remains identified and returned to their families thus far. The CMP would also like to welcome Mr. Florian von König, who succeeds Mr. Oleg Egorov as Permanent Secretary of the CMP. The CMP wishes to thank Mr. Egorov for his commitment.
