Appointment of Mr. Hakkı Müftüzade as new Turkish Cypriot Member of CMP

(Nicosia, 11 January 2021) – The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) welcomes the appointment of Mr. Hakkı Müftüzade as the new Turkish Cypriot Member of CMP. Mr. Müftüzade took up his new position on 1 January 2021.
Mr. Müftüzade brings with him extensive experience in diplomacy, having previously served for eight years as Special Advisor of two Turkish Cypriot leaders between 2001 and 2010. He also served as the Representative of the Turkish Cypriot community in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 2001. From 1989 to 1990, Mr. Müftüzade was the Assistant to Mr. Rüstem Tatar, the then-Turkish Cypriot Member of CMP. He was also a founding member of the Cyprus Turkish Education Foundation in 1994 and later served as the Secretary of the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Müftüzade completed a Degree in Policy Making & Administration from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He is married and has one child.
The Committee is looking forward to work with Mr. Müftüzade in order to build on CMP’s achievements and to further assist families of hundreds of missing persons who are still waiting for news of their loved ones. Mr. Müftüzade is succeeding Mrs. Gülden Plümer Küçük who completed a 15-year term as Turkish Cypriot Member of CMP. The CMP wishes to thank Mrs. Küçük for her service to the Committee at an important time when CMP’s humanitarian operations were established in 2006 and subsequently led to the location, identification and return of 993 missing persons to their families.
