PRESS RELEASE
(Nicosia, 24 October 2007) – The Australian Government will donate AU$10,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP). This will contribute to the CMP project on the exhumation, identification and return of remains of missing persons, which was launched in August 2006.
The Australian Special Envoy for Cyprus, the Honorable Jim Short, advised the CMP of the grant during his visit today to the CMP Anthropological laboratory in the United Nations Protected Area in Nicosia. Mr. Short, in commending the work of the CMP, said that the grant was made on humanitarian grounds and to assist reconciliation efforts in Cyprus.
The CMP would like to express its gratitude to the Australian Government for its generosity, which will help its bi-communal teams of scientists to continue their work throughout the island on behalf of the families of missing from both communities.
