(Nicosia 11 January 2019) – Four prominent experts in forensic and identification sciences visited the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) from 7 to 10 January 2019. Upon request of the three CMP Members, they completed an assessment of the work of CMP’s genetic and identification teams as well as the archeologist team.
(Nicosia, 2 March 2018) – Today, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, visited the CMP Anthropological Laboratory and met with the CMP Members and scientists. The CMP Members briefed him on the progress made and the challenges faced by the Committee and conveyed their gratitude for the United Nations’ continuing support to the humanitarian work of the CMP.
(Nicosia, 25 November 2017) – As part of their overall effort to find new information on unknown burial sites in Cyprus in military and police archives of twelve countries, the three CMP Members held talks on 21 November in Vienna with officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defense. They also visited the National Archives. Progress was made in plans to access and research UNFICYP-related Austrian archives.
(Nicosia, 07 November 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Republic of Cyprus for its donation of EUR 265,000 made today. In addition to the yearly contribution of EUR 125,000, it includes EUR 140,000 in funding for archive research. This allocation brings the Republic of Cyprus’ financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 2,800,700 since 2005.
(Nicosia, 21 July 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to Ireland for its donation of EUR 25,000 made today. This brings the Irish financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 325,000 over the past ten years.
(Nicosia, 14 July 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to H.E. Mr Mustafa Akıncı for a donation of EUR 50,000 made on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot community today. This brings the Turkish Cypriot financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 358,000 over the past eleven years.
(Nicosia, 14 July 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Netherlands for its donation of EUR 122,000 made today. This brings the Dutch financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 622,000 over the past eleven years.
(Nicosia, 13 July 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Federal Republic of Germany for its donation of EUR 100,000 made today. This brings the German financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 500,000 over the past eleven years.
(Nicosia, 18 May 2017) – The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) wishes to express its sincere thanks to Australia for its donation of EUR 7,000 made today. This brings the Australian financial assistance to the CMP to a total of EUR 13,300 over the past ten years.
(Nicosia, 15 May 2017) – On 15 May, CMP excavation teams located the remains of one individual in a civilian area in Famagusta/Gagimağuza, and of two additional individuals (thus reaching a total number of six) within a military zone at Saint Hilarion.
