CMP Press Release

Release Date: Dec 17, 2009

(Nicosia, 17.12.2009) - The Committee on Missing Persons wishes to express once again its profound gratitude to the Government of Ireland for its commitment and continued support following its fourth donation of EUR 50,000. This brings the Irish financial assistance to a total of EUR 200,000 over the past four years.

This donation to the CMP Project on the Exhumation, Identification and Return of Remains of Missing Persons in Cyprus will contribute to the Committee’s goal of identifying and returning as many remains of missing individuals as possible in order to bring an end to the uncertainty which has affected so many families for so many years.

To date, human remains representing some 585 individuals have been exhumed while 196 missing persons have been identified and returned to the families for a proper burial.

The CMP needs to raise EUR 2.3 million annually  to continue to carry out its mandate.
